# Open with a flash or a chat message

Two ways to hook viewers in the first seconds: a white flash, and a real chat message put forward.

## The flash at the start

1. Open the **Effects** tool.
2. Turn on **Flash at the start**.
3. Keep or turn off **Camera flash sound**, the camera shutter sound that plays at the same moment.

It is a white flash on the first frames, like a camera. It lasts 0.22 s, and the picture starts 12% bigger before settling in under half a second.

## The chat message at the start

1. In the **Text** tool, open the **Chat** tab.
2. Turn on **Chat message at the start**.

The studio picks one real chat message from the first seconds and shows it big for 3 seconds.

> If no message from the first seconds is readable on its own, the studio tells you. This option only exists for Twitch clips opened from their link.
